Welcome!

My name is David MacTaggart and I was a PhD student in solar physics, supervised by Professor Alan Hood at St Andrews University. I'm currently at the NBI. My work focuses on flux emergence - the dynamic process of how magnetic fields rise through the interior of the Sun and into its atmosphere.

Preprints of my work will appear below.

1. Can magnetic breakout be achieved from multiple flux emergence?

three tubes
A&A 501, 761-768 (2009)

2. On the emergence of toroidal flux tubes: general dynamics and comparisons with the cylinder model

reconnection below axis
A&A 507, 995-1004 (2009)

3. Multiple eruptions from magnetic flux emergence

2nd rope pre-eruption
A&A 508, 445-449 (2009)

4. Simulating the "sliding doors" effect through magnetic flux emergence

initial condition
ApJ 716: L219-L222 (2010)
