My research interests are in Solar Magnetohydrodynamics.
In Solar MHD I am working on a variety of topics involving the interplay between the solar plasma and the mangetic field.
An exciting topic is the Emergence of Magnetic fields from the solar interior, through the photospherre and into the corona. This involves 3D MHD simulations.
The propagation of MHD waves near coronal null points plays a key role in the release of the wave energy at these locations and in initiating reconnection.
MHD instabilities are responsible for a variety of dynamic phenomena and the non-linear evolution of these instabilities can be followed using a 3D MHD simulation code. A key feature is the development of current sheets as a consequence of these instabilities.
Phase mixing of MHD waves is a physical process that can enhance the damping process. The non-linear response of the plasma to phase mixing can be investigated numerically.
